This group includes breeds that for millennia have been supporting people to guard herds of cattle and flocks of sheep. From ancient times, the dog had other skills than the hunter, including the guard. There was always a danger that herds of wild animals to be pillaged and even people. Dog under the guidance of man, became the most devoted guardian of herds, ready to repel aggressors, people or animals.

First sheepdogs were massive, strong, courageous, ready to jump at the throat of the wolf, bear and other predators.
