All about Windows 7 versions...



Editions of Windows 7 are designed in such a way that each higher to be a superset of additional options from previous ones. Which means that when the user decides to pass from one version to another, all the features previous versions are preserved and they add other appropriate version purchased by an upgrade.In addition to this, all editions can run on different anverguri systems, from netbooks to systems of high-performance gaming. And Windows 7 has 6 versions of the product, as follows:


  • Windows 7 Starter (only available pre-installed on OEM systems all over the world but limited to new systems with certain hardware features, a little more reduced)



  • Windows 7 Home Basic (only for markets in development - emerging markets)



  • Windows 7 Home Premium



  • Windows 7 Professional



  • Windows 7 Enterprise (only for Microsoft's customers covered by Software Assurance or volume licensing)



  • Windows 7 Ultimate



Windows 7 Starter

Availability: overall, through the channel OEM, with new systems netbook.

Key features: the new task bar, drop-down list in the task bar, Windows Media Player, Backup and Restore, Action Center, Device Stage, Play To, fax and scan, simple games.

Limitations: does not have transparency Aero Glass interface, lacks many improvements to the Aero for desktop, has no Windows Touch, no Windows Media Center, and no previews of windows in the task bar, missing Windows 7 Mobility Center, the options for creating Home Group.


Windows 7 Home Basic

Availability: emerging markets, only through the channel OEM. 

Key features: all the features of Windows 7 Starter in addition to advanced features for networks, previews of windows in the task bar, and Windows 7 Mobility Center.

Limitations: does not have transparency Aero Glass interface, lacks many improvements to the Aero for desktop, has no Windows Touch, no Windows Media nor the options for creating Home Group.


Windows 7 Home Premium

 Availability: is the main version of Windows 7, intended for overall consumption in the whole world, so by OEM and Retail version (stand-alone).

Key Features: Aero Glass, Aero Background, Windows Touch, options create a home group, Media Center, playing and making DVD, premium games, in addition to all of the features found in Windows 7 Home Basic.

Limitations: cannot enter the complex network type Domain, does not have Remote Desktop host program, does not have advanced backup, no EFS, or Offline folders.


Windows 7 Professional

Availability: Intended in particular environment for small business, global available via OEM or retail, but also in the System Volume Licensing.

Key Features: Access network Domain, has Remote Desktop, printing by location, EFS, Presentation mode, Offline folders, Windows Media Center plus all the features and functionality of Windows 7 Home Premium.

Limitations: does not have BitLocker, BitLocker To Go, AppLocker, Direct Access, Branche Cache, nor the right to install language packs for interface and no loading in VHD.


Windows 7 Enterprise

 Availability: only through Software Assurance or channels Volume Licensing for business level enterprise.

Key Features: BitLocker, BitLocker To Go, AppLocker, Direct Access, Branche Cache, you may want to install language packs for interface and boot from VHD - practically this is the most complete version of Windows 7.


Windows 7 Ultimate

Market concerned: retail or upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional.

Key Features: BitLocker, BitLocker To Go, AppLocker, Direct Access, Branche Cache, you may want to install language packs for interface and boot from VHD.

It can be seen that the overall versions of Windows 7 resembles that of Windows Vista, with the exception of notable changes such as entering Media Center in Windows 7 Professional (Windows Vista Business does not include Windows Media Center), or that Windows 7 Starter is from the start version intended for global market for netbooks, while Windows Vista Starter was for cheap computers on emerging markets.
